Because there as been a volcano eruption in Iceland and ash is all over Europe. The reason we're getting all this ash is because the molten lava hits the iceberg on top of the volcano and the sudden change in temperature and pressure gives off masses of fine ash. So what it's just a bit of ash you say, well it's not, jet engines suck in masses of amouts of air so if they suck up all that ash it will enter the engine, heat up and stick to the back propeller of the engine, these propellers are designed to be as this as a strand of hair, so if you go and pour glass over it its not gonna work and the results could be fatal.
