Two reasons why Africa's ancient history is difficult to reconstruct?

Many African tribes have an oral language and have oral historians (griots) to relate history from the past. Since there is no written past and a griotâ??s narrative can sometimes seem more like a mythology than a history, reconstructing actual facts and events are particularly difficult for historians.
