Where did the United states receive Florida from?

The United States acquired Florida from Spain through the Adams-Onís Treaty, signed in 1819. Spain ceded Florida to the U.S. in exchange for the U.S. relinquishing any claims to Texas and agreeing to pay off certain claims by American citizens against Spain. The treaty was ratified in 1821, and Florida officially became a U.S. territory that same year.
