What is a chapter-play?

In the years during World War II, cheap, serial movies were made for the entertainment of the "homefront," e.g. "The Masked Marvel" or "Jungle Girl." Each episode of a serial was called a "chapter" and the entire serial was called a "chapter-play" by movie-goers.
