This demand led to an increased reliance on enslaved Africans, who were forcibly brought to America through the transatlantic slave trade to work on plantations. The profitability of these crops incentivized plantation owners to acquire more enslaved individuals, perpetuating and expanding the system of slavery in the South. As agricultural practices intensified and the economy grew, so did the influx of enslaved Africans to meet the labor needs.
