What part did Marquis de Lafayette have in the Valley Forge?

Lafayette was a very important commander of troops, and aided General Washington. He donated muskets and clothing to the other soldiers in the war. He backed up General Washington when he was threatened to be replaced as General. Lafayette was known as the "soldiers' friend".
