Every protein shake is a mixture of some sort of protein powder and a liquid. Protein powder can be purchased at a local healthfood/supplement store, at a gym, or online. There's a wide variety of choices and flavors. Generally, whey (derived from milk) is the most common and cheapest source. Soy is also a popular option, especially for vegans. Other sources, such as casein (another milk protein) or egg whites are available. These containers usually come with measuring "scoops" inside to make it easy to pour out however much one needs. Following the instructions on the label, mix however many scoops of powder with however many ounces of liquid are recommended. Usually you'll use skim milk, but you can also use soy milk or water if you prefer. Mixing up the drink can be a bit difficult and messy, especially if you're trying to use a standard glass. Places which carry protein powder also sell "shaker cups" which have a wide mouth to allow for easy adding of the powder but also include a screw on top, allowing you to shake your beverage to completely dissolve the powder. You can also use a blender if you choose, though this will give you an extra container to clean. There's no wrong way to make a shake and plenty of variations. Feel free to add however you like to make your shakes.
