How do you tell if you have real emerald gem?

A jeweler with a loop can tell you if a gemstone is real otherwise it is hard to tell today with the created stones. Notice the colors and shape of the stone. Often created stones have colors that are too bright and too perfect. In the United States the created stone is suppose to be identified by the jeweler. If in doubt ask.
