Instead, our military history has shown how dynamite is more often used as a weapon of war and of terrorism: everything from minefields to grenades to suicide bombers.

As an act of contrition, in his last will and testament Alfred Nobel instituted the international award that bears his name: the Nobel Prizes are given out annually to recognize those who have helped mankind move forward in the name of peace, of literary creativity, and of scientific discovery.
