How did Morse's invention of the telegraph changed media forever?

Morse's invention of the telegraph provided a basis for communication and it inspired other people to build on that general idea. Picture Morse's telegraph as a stepping stool or a ladder. People such as Alexander Graham Bell realized that if mankind can create an audible series of beeps and broadcast them to a distant location, the same may be done through sound. So he modified it so it was a microphone sending what the microphone heard to another person.
