Why is it important that controlled drugs are handled differently to other medication?

Controlled medications have a higher tendency for abuse. Blood pressure or cholesterol meds are non addictive, because they don't give you a "feel good" feeling, like a Lortab or Ambien. Thus why these two meds are controlled.
