What origin does the word anaconda come from?

The Word is of uncertain origin, but may have been brought to England from Ceylon sometime in the 18th Century as Henacandaya meaning a Whip Snake. It was than applied, in error, to the large South American Boa, named in Brazil as Sucunriuba
