How do you get a divers license?

These days, in most states, you need at least a birth certificate and social security card to get a driver's license. In some states, you might also need proof of insurance if you have a car registered in your name as well.

Prior to getting a license for the first time, you have to take a written exam, and then a driving test (on the road). If you pass, then you can continue with the rest of the steps to get your license.

You have to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles or Department of Public Safety and take all forms of ID. Sometimes, it's best to call ahead and schedule an appointment. When you get there, wait in line, give them your ID, take a quick eye exam, give thumbprints, pay the fee, stand against a backdrop and get your picture taken, and then they give you a temporary license until you receive your real license (with photo) in the mail.
