You have moved counter-clockwise and now hourglass that sit against pad is farther out and cannot put pad on do you redo and go clock wise?

Because of the lack of information I'm guessing you're doing rear brakes on a 4 wheel disc brake system? If so you need to push on the piston and turn it at the same time on some models. This tool is available at parts suppliers
