Claude Du Vall was ambushed and captured inside the Hole-in-Wall tavern in London on Christmas Eve, 1669. He spent four weeks imprisoned at Newgate until he was eventually tried and scented to hang. King Charles II had wanted to give the condemned prisoner a Royal Pardon, but was persuaded otherwise by Sir. William Morton, one of Du Vall's judges. Poor Du Vall was then taken to Tyburn on January 21st, 1670 and hanged. His body was cut down and exhibited in Tangier Tavern for the public to view. It's said he was buried at St. Giles In the Fields.
