René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, died in 1687 during an expedition in Texas. He was killed by his own men, who were frustrated by his leadership and the hardships they faced. After failing to find the Mississippi River and suffering from a series of setbacks, a faction among his crew mutinied, leading to his murder. His death marked a tragic end to his ambitious explorations in North America.
