What is the difference between a TV and a TV receiver?

The terms are mostly interchangeable. In general, a television receiver receives a TV signal. The "signal" isn't much good unless it is processed and turned into a picture with sound. That's what a TV does. The whole thing. From a technical point of view, this question might just be splitting hairs. When we use the term TV, we almost always visualize the appliance before which we sit to view stuff. Anything else, like a TV transmitter or TV antenna is designated as such.
