What is the basic situation for twilight?

Bella Swan, a human, meets and falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. Twilight is about Edward pushing Bella away, stating a relationship would be to dangerous for her. However he eventually gives this tactic up and they begin to date. They run into some trouble along the way (mainly from James, another vampire) as Bella is bitten. She's saved. They live happily ever after (until New Moon that is.)
