After the Civil War much damage was done. Every state was in ruins, including Arkansas; bridges, roads and railways were unusable. Crops, fields and livestock had been destroyed. Important cities were piles of rubble. Also, to make matters worse, the states were deeply in debt; banks were either already closed or in the midst of closing. It was a disaster!
