Depending on their size. Small airplanes require a reduction of power and deployment of Flaps ( Section of the wing that will create drag as well as extra lift). Large aircrafts require the pilot to configure it for landing by following procedures that are more complex. The basic still applies. Slow down, Deploy flaps and/or slats, lower gear, maintain airspeed, and right before touch down the pilot "flares"(slow the decent to to basically 0) right before touch down.
