Who is the eleven in The Giver?

In "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, the character Eleven is a young boy in the community who is chosen to become the new Receiver of Memory. He is Jonas's successor in the role, and he is depicted as shy and eager to learn about the memories that are passed down to him.
