Should an alcoholic or drug addict being treated for Sciatica advise ER doctors and nurses of their history of narcotics abuse even if it results in their being denied pain medication?

As a recovering addict serious about my sobriety I ALWAYS inform any doctor treating me of my addiction so they don't prescribe me any medications that may hinder my treatment. If there is a way they can treat my pain without using narcotic pain relievers, I would prefer it. The withdrawal process is painful and lengthy and I would try to avoid it at all costs. Wouldn't you?
