Here are the four general acid reactions.

Acid + Base = Salr + Water

Acid + Alkali = Salt + Water

Acid + Metal = Salt + Hydrogen

Acid + Carbonate = Salt + Water + Carbon dioxide.

NB An Alkali is a soliuble base.
