Since that time information has advanced both in performance, reliability and portability.

With the help of information technology a business has real time data available to make critical decisions. For example share market instead of depending on printed tapes which were used earlier to track the price of shares , calculation were made for price analysis. Most of the time by the time calculations were over the position of the market changed. Now this data is available on a real time basis and all calculations are done in seconds.

For general business purposes if an Exporter or Importer needed to know the price of goods in earlier days he might have had to make a long distance call or many calls to get a quote or request for a quote. These calls were both expensive and process time taking. Nowadays just send an email copied to all suppliers and receive their quotes on email before end of day. Without having to wait for a courier to arrive if it was not lost in transit.
