The general hospitals of today provide all levels of care, as described below:

Primary Care - for colds, flus, bacterial or viral diseases, broken bones, sort muscles, skin rashes, etc.

Secondary Care - secondary care is given by health care providers who specialize in specific ares of the medical field, such as cardiologists for heart health, and oncologists for cancers, etc.

Tertiary Care - this level of care requires a higher level of specialty care within the hospital and also requires the patient's admission into the hospital. Highly specialized equipment and expertise, and intensive surgeries are treatments or procedures listed in tertiary care.

Quaternary Care - this level of care is considered to be an extension of tertiary care, only more specialized and often highly unusual, even experimental. Not every hospital offers quaternary care because it is so specialized.
