What was the promise of the Old Testament?

One promise made by God in the Old Testament is that he would never ever destroy the earth with a 40 day flood. The sign of the promise is the rainbow.

Gen 9:11 With these Words I make my covenant with you: I promise that never again will all living beings be destroyed by a flood; never again will a flood destroy the earth.

Just a flood not a 40 day flood
