What is the difference between maximum and minimum security prison?

The type of prison an inmate is assigned represents the amount of risk to society he or she represents. Minimum security facilities have unsecured dorms and share group toilet and shower facilities. There is less supervision and inmates sometimes participate in community work projects. Maximum security represents the highest risk prison population. Inmates must remain their cells 23 our of 24 hours a day. There is heavy supervision and movement is allowed only with restraints and supervision.
