On the 2004 Honda Civic LX, the Rear Brake Light Assembly is held in place by 4 screws AND 2 Bolts. Unfortunately the Chiltons Repair guide does NOT cover the removal of the Brake Light Assembly and I destroyed the old one before I figured out how i was SUPPOSED to do it. Below are the steps.
To Complete this task you'll need a Philips head screwdriver and a 10mm metric socket wrench.
The Removal Instructions cover how I did it for a 2004 Honda Civic LX 4 Door:
1. Open the Trunk Lid.
2. Disconnect the two bulb connectors.
3. Remove the three screws holding the Brake Light to the trunk interior.
4. Get under the car and look up, under the Rear Bumper you'll see that there is
a fourth screw still attached through a metal bracket. Remove the screw.
5. You will also need loosen the two bolts holding the bracket. There isn't enough room to take the bolts off. Besides, you relly don't need to. Once you get it loose enough, the Brake Light should slide out.
6. That's it! Reverse the steps for reinstallation.
Hope that helps!
