World War 2 was fought between the countries belonging to the Allies and the Axis. The Allies included the United States, Soviet Union, United Kingdom, Canada, Greece, India, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Mexico, and a few other nations; The Axis included Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, and a few other nations. After D-Day(1944), the Allied forces freed France from the German forces and began to push the German troops back. The Allied troops continued to push into Germany and in May of 1945 Germany surrendered. Japan continued to fight and so in August of 1945 nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan surrendered later that month and the official papers for surrender were signed in September, 1945.
