What makes brain matter white?

The myelin sheaths found on axons in the brain ("myelinated axons") gives most brain tissue a white color (= "white matter"). The grey, unmyelinated sell bodies, or "soma," of these axons reside in areas of the brain commonly referred to as "grey matter."
