Answer

The Constitution was engrossed, meaning that it was written in large letters by some printers, and only as a final formality. Like the Declaration, it was printed before its signing. On the final copy, the names of the states in front of the signatures, however, are handwritten by Alexander Hamilton (the sole New York delegate at the convention).
