Belfast Castle, located on the slopes of Cave Hill, has never been home to a reigning king or queen. Instead, it was the residence of the Anglo-Norman Charlemont family and later the Donegall family, who were noble rather than royal. The castle, built in the 19th century, is now a public space and a popular tourist attraction, but it has never served as a royal palace.
