What was some important event happening in 1914?

The most obvious and noteworthy event would have to be the assassination of Archduke to the Austro-Hungrian Empire, Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the throne by a Serbian man by the name of Gavrilo Princip a member of the Black hand. This sparked a chain of events that would eventually lead to World War I, the second most deadly conflict in human history, with over 9 million dead by the end of the war.
