If you are taking hydrocodone that is being prescribed to you, you should have your doctor work out a gradual weening schedule to slowly take you off the drug. If you have been using it recreationally, and have developed an addiction, the same principle applies. You need to gradually reduce the amount you take, both in dosage and frequency. You will notice withdrawal symptoms, which are not pleasant, but which will be stronger or weaker in relation to how fast you ween yourself. If you feel that you are highly addicted, or that you lack the willpower or strength to do this yourself, you definitely need to get help. If you don't have a family doctor, or don't want this going "public", there are shelters, outreach programs, and community services, like Catholic Community Services, that will work with you for free, or on a sliding scale. Quitting a narcotic addiction is painful and painstaking, and I wish you, or the person you are thinking of, all the best of luck.
