How do you get rid of the evil eye?

The evil eye, or general bad luck can be warded using hand signals, talismans, amulets, spoken charms or full rituals depending on your personal traditions.

The hand signals include:

- making horns with your hand. Hold down the second and ring finger of your dominant hand with the thumb of the same hand extending the first and smallest fingers as horns.

- closing your fist with the tip of your thumb protruding from between your second and ring finger. This symbol is sometimes seen in charms worn as jewelry (an amulet) and commonly given to girl children as protection.

Both of these gestures are forms of phallic symbols, used by women or given to girl children because the feminine gender was thought to be weaker in their resistance to evil.

Talismans against the evil eye frequently took the form of an eye or concentric circles that formed a stylized eye. These still hang in some homes and can be seen painted on the hulls of sea-going ships in museums.
