How do you tell what gun i have?

Sorry- just kidding. I think you mean how do YOU tell what gun YOU have.

Let's start with the obvious- long gun or handgun? Next, what markings on on it? What type of action (bolt action, semi auto, etc). There are a few of us that hang out here in the firearms thread that combined have well over 100 years experience with firearms, and we have a few references to help us find you the answer.
