Why do Chinese men greatly outnumber women?

Female infanticide is practised because traditional Chinese families prefer boys for they do not want their surnames to die out. The One-Child Policy in China has aggravated this problem and everything become worse when the first child is not a boy. That's why there are more Chinese men than women. However, mindsets have changed and the Chinese people are less rigid and some wouldn't mind having daughters.
