DACVIM is a board certification that is above and beyond simply being a veterinarian (DVM). It stands for Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. To get this degree, a vet has to complete a one-year internship, three-year residency and possibly a PhD research dissertation as well.
