Queen Victoria, and Prince Albert's oldest son and heir, assumed the crown after Victoria's death in 1901 as King Albert Edward, but chose the name of Edward, called "Bertie" so as not to confuse him with "my father, Albert the Good." AFter waiting for over 6 decades to be King, "Bertie" died some brief 9 years later.
