Augustus Octavian, the first Roman emperor, primarily lived in Rome. He was born in 63 BCE in the town of Velletri, near Rome, but he spent most of his life in the city itself, particularly in his lavish residence on the Palatine Hill. Following his rise to power, he also expanded his living quarters with the construction of the enormous palace known as the Domus Augustus.
