How did the famous Persian physician Ibn Sina improve the practice of medicine?

Idn Sina was the author of the great "Canon on Medicine," one of the largest medical encyclopedias the world has ever seen. It contained knowledge on the diagnosing and treatments of many diseases, as well as prescriptions and different ingredients with which the diseases could be treated.
