Why did Gloria Steinem go to India?

Because she received a scholarship to study in India for two years after graduating from Smith College. She was determined to avoid getting married to her fiancee, feeling that marriage wasn't right for her. So, she seized the opportunity and went to India and learned a great deal about the way women are treated internationally.
