Laugh-a-Lot Club was the name of the Texarkana, Texas based "local" kids show which was hosted by Charles B. Pierce aka Mayor Chuckles. The exact origin date of the show is difficult to determine. I was born in 1962, and yet I was one of many kids who appeared in the show's kiddie audience over time. The show may have originated in 1965, but it ran for several seasons. The kiddie audience seated in the low rise bleachers were featured in between Cartoons being broadcasted during the show. I appeared on it twice, and once was chosen to go up and draw at the artist easel. During the taping of each show, Pierce would select one child from the audience to come up and draw a shape on an oversized easel based sketchpad--once done, he would turn that particular shape into a cartoon caricature. At the conclusion of each show's taping, the kiddie audience received some type of token parting gift ie a loaf of Roman Meal bread, etc.. Such tokens were most likely items which had been provided by one of the show's sponsors. Others in my age group from the Texarkana area also recall the show. I have inquired as to whether any footage existed from the tapings, but according to Cnannel 6 News (formerly KTAL) any such footage was never kept/destroyed.
