How does a window mounted heat pump work to efficiently heat or cool a room?

A window-mounted heat pump works by transferring heat between the inside and outside of a room. In heating mode, it extracts heat from the outside air and transfers it inside. In cooling mode, it removes heat from inside and releases it outside. This process is efficient because it doesn't rely solely on generating heat or cold air, but rather on moving existing heat to achieve the desired temperature.
