What type of material is used in the manufacture of modern Mercedes cylinder blocks?

Cast Aluminum, it is incredibly lightweight and strong- with the exception of the 320CDI engine that is made of forged steel, the diesel engine has a much higher compresion ratio and requires more reinforcement.
