"Conservative" states don't necessarily have stronger economies than "liberal" states.

Stating that something is conservative or liberal can refer to social and/or economic policies.

According to a graphic available from money.CNN.com, Florida (which is generally thought of as both socially and economically conservative) has higher unemployment and a higher amount of home foreclosures than the rest of the country.
