What is costacondritis?

Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs to the breastbone (sternum). It often causes localized chest pain that may worsen with certain movements or pressure on the ribcage. Though the exact cause is often unclear, it can result from injury, repetitive trauma, or strain. Costochondritis is generally considered benign and can typically be managed with rest, pain relievers, and physical therapy.
