Why did lee wanted to invaade the north?

According to Historians, Leeâ??s reason for invading the North in September 1862 was based on strategic, logistical and political factors. Lee wanted to surprise the Union army specifically in Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania because he believed McClellan and his Union army were weak.
