E (dissipated in a resistor R)=(I^2)*R*t=VI=(V^2)/R
where V is voltage across resistor ,I is current,t is time.
or if there is a function of time the equation becomes
E= integral from 0 to t (i(t)^2*R) dt
it is the integral of the power dissipated for the time in question.
