What is the medical term meaning abnormal condition of the kidney?

Nephrosis is the general term meaning any abnormal condition of the kidney. One example is nephritis; this means that the nephrons, or filtering mechanism, of the kidneys are inflamed from infection. It is dangerous if not treated because permanent damage to the delicate nephron system can occur, possibly resulting in renal failure.
